Using a rasp to smooth part of the fish.

Pauley's brains and guts oozing out. It really is my attempt to fix the problems I caused when I injected too much expanding foam without enough space or air to harden up in the closed torso.

Poking holes into pockets of unhardened urathane caused the oozing, and let the foam inside harden as well.

Dog is nearly done.

Crocodile portraits.

More fish smoothing.

A good overview of the workshop as it is at this point. What a mess!

Almost done smoothing so I can apply the last piece of fiberglass cloth.

Using a strand of fiberglass as a ruler to see how much cloth I need to cut.

med | big | huge

Geez! what a big gut-left this in to see if it can inspire me to lose a couple tons before I hit the playa.

Measuring the width of cloth needed.

Cutting the cloth.

The following sequence shows how to take a flat piece of cloth and form it over the double curved fish body.

Marking a cut line.

Cutting along the cut line.

Using a recent innovation, I'm spraying a bit of spray adhesive to attach the areas I'm happy with so the slippery cloth doesn't move as I continue shaping and cutting it.

More marking.

Cutting takes sharp sissors. The threads of glass want to slip out of the jaws or bend without cutting.

Smoothing fiberglass around exotic shapes is a very sensual task. The stuff feels good and makes pretty tough curves...

...it isn't until later that the itching starts from all the little fibers that get stuck into the tender bits of skin.

Elapsed time is probably about 10 minutes to get to this nice smooth application. I'm gonna put off actually spreading on the fiberglass resin until tomorrow when I'm giving a little 'tour' of my art studio to a friend and his daugher.

Moving critters around so I can do the final steps on the dog. It is getting heavy and hard to move.

Woof!

Taking a pause to clean out some containers for future pours of resin.
