Burningman 2002:
Event Photos

I took a pile of throw away cameras for the playa. Cameras with moving parts are not a good idea when you live on a parking lot covered with talcum powder. Quality suffers, but I've never been able to capture images that feel close to what I was seeing at the time.

Did I bring enough to survive for 2 weeks? Yeah-maybe enough for 2 months.

[med] [big] [huge]
My first sunrise. For the first week, I could watch the sun rise without needing to move from the comfort of my tent/sleeping bag. Those days disappeared quickly with the arrival of thousands of neighbors.

Friends Mike and Bunny set up camp next door for one night but then moved near center camp the following day. Maybe it was the nightly dog fights?

[med] [big] [huge]
My neighbors from across the street. They had been there for about a week before I arrived-working with Kiki on a fountain near center camp.

[med] [big] [huge]
This dome acted as the main meeting area of the camp, but was also the welding shop to part of the project for a couple of nights work.

[med] [big] [huge]
The neighbors on the other side add to their ranks.

[med] [big] [huge]
About the only view that shows my whole camp with windshade, tower and tent. The foreground 'shelter' spent several days frustrating the neighbors who only seemed to want to work on it when the wind was up.

[med] [big] [huge]
Assembling the wind shade. The threads on the ends of the bolts got all banged up when I took it apart at home. It took me several days to figure out how to clean them up to begin re-assembly.

[med] [big] [huge]
In the days prior to this, the wind blew down my tent and crow's nest. I left them both down until I could get the shade up.

[med] [big] [huge]
It was far too heavy for me to lift all at once, but I had been able to lift the beams up a bit at a time. I started doing the same thing ou on the desert-just to see how high I could get it by myself.

[med] [big] [huge]
Using everything I could find to prop up the heavy beams.

[med] [big] [huge]
When I got it up this high, 2 guys came along to offer assistance. Had to get a shot showing my progress.

[med] [big] [huge]
We were able to lift it easily with 3 bodies.

Tarps added.
My corner-Just before the crowds arive.

[med] [big] [huge]
My corner-240 degrees and Forecastle. The neighbors to the left are white trash camp-A shade structure made of old palettes and 2 couples that stayed in character well.

[med] [big] [huge]
Other neighbors moving in across the street and the Pirate Radio station (KSVERT 106.5) a block away.

My whole camp with flags to save some space for Cameron and others. Before the big influx of BRCitizens.

As I was finally nearly recovered from the exploded tire problem on my trailer, Marcel-a fellow Eschalon burning man friend-happened to notice me on the side of the interstate. He went to the next exit several miles up and returned to see if I needed help. We continued to bump into each other on the way to the desert, and we drove into our home town together at midnight saturday/sunday night.
